Kayak – Deserted Island – Hike – SUP (Stand Up Paddleboard) – Mountain climb
FULL DAY (8 Hours) approx.
Adventure start time: 7am
This adventure starts with a 45-minute kayak from Diamond Head, Golden Beach across the Pumicestone Passage to the deserted northern tip of Bribie or as Experientia likes to call it “Mel’s Escape Island”. Vehicles cannot access this stretch of the island as we adventure along the remote white sandy beach’s shoreline via foot to explore the historic bunkers that were built between 1939 & 1943 as part of the South-East Queensland’s military force, which also provided a base for artillery training for the Australian soldiers during the war II.
Upon returning to the mainland, we take the local scenic drive along the Caloundra foreshore showcasing the spectacular Southern beaches of the Sunshine Coast. Arriving at Lake Currimundi, a natural tidal lake situated only metres from the Pacific Ocean adventurers will understand why this section of the coast was also gazetted for training the Australian military for live firing of mortars, tanks and artillery.
Traverse along the calmness of the lake on stand up paddleboards from http://www.kitethrills.com/ as sand dunes, beachfront and coastal bushland composes a surreal back drop. A perfect setting for our Paleo lunch and enjoy a local grown coffee from Mike & his staff at Beach Espresso Cafe – Home | Facebook & The last leg of the historic bunkers adventures takes a 20-minute drive to Wild horse mountain.
The smallest mountain of the Glass House family this short 123m high (700m) walk showcases all of the Sunshine Coast’s array of hinterland, summits & beaches with its 360 degree views. From this vantage point we can experience the deserted island we came from afar.
